Children’s Sunday School, Childcare, and Music

Nursery

Kirkwood provides loving nurseries for infants & toddlers during the Sunday School hour, as well as during the 11:00 Worship Service.

Bridges to Worship

This class meets after the children’s sermon, during the 11:00 Worship Service. It is for children ages 3 through 1st grade. They are invited to attend a special worship service for children, taught by volunteers on a rotating schedule. Bridges includes singing, Bible lessons, prayer and a related activity or craft. A light snack is provided.
Leaders: Sandy Webster and Shelly Muhlenkamp

During the fall quarter, 2nd and 3rd graders are invited to attend a special worship preparation class, following the children’s sermon during the 11:00 Worship Service. Basic parts of our worship service, including the sacraments, the Lord’s Prayer, and the Gloria Patri, will be discussed so that the participants will develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of the service.
Leader: Chris Cataldo

Sunday School Classes

The first Sunday of each month at 9:15 am, everyone is invited to join together in the Sanctuary for a time of worship before classes begin. Come and enjoy our theme of the day, skits, music, and birthday celebrations.

Early Childhood
This lively group will have their hands busy with lots of manipulatives, fun-loving puppets, interactive learning and many activity choices along the way. They will use big books and learning mats to help them understand Joseph, David, Daniel, Jesus’ life and Resurrection. They will learn about the early Christians, and how they too can show God’s love in a great big world!
Teacher: Dianne Hirsch

Kindergarten, First, and Second Grades
These eager learners will get their hands on crafts galore as they explore Ruth, David, Jonathan, and Jesus’ ministry, and begin to understand what worship is about. Games, interactive play, puppet skits, some beginning writing, and lots of singing will help our early elementary children discover God’s wonderful creation!
Teacher: Barbara Hall

Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grades
Our increasingly sophisticated preteens will get their hands on some challenging activities involving critical thinking, and problem-solving. Games, skits and creative movement will lead the way into their study of the Bible in today’s preteen world. The teachings of Jesus, the prophets and Paul’s letters to the early church provide the Christian perspective as these children explore God’s Will for their lives!
Teacher: Caitlin Schindler

Choraleer Choir

All elementary-age children are welcome to join Choraleers. There are no try-outs or auditions; we welcome any child who wants to make music with us. Our director chooses lots of kinds of music that the group performs throughout the year. Choraleers sing many songs, and even get to learn how to sing harmony parts. We use tone-chimes and Orff instruments - you don't even have to know how to play any other instrument or how to read music. It's fun!

Bring a friend as well - we're always happy to have visitors. For more information, call Christopher at 202.610.2873 or email him at smithc@cua.edu.
