Mission is the new component of the KFFL for this season.
As the congregation of Kirkwood is well aware, we said goodbye this
year to Lance Corporal Jeffrey Ghen USMC. Jeffrey was an owner of
the KFFL team Herod’s Hitmen along with his grandfather for
the 2008/09 season. Jeffrey managed his team during his deployment
to Afghanistan this past year, and the Hitmen were Division Champions,
achieving the best regular season record in both KFFL leagues. All
the owners in the KFFL remember Jeffrey’s love of the game and
his notes of “confident challenge” (some would use other
words) to his fellow owners. Our mission this year is to dedicate
the KFFL Season to Jeffrey, and to do so by helping his fellow Marines,
Sailors, Soldiers, and Airmen by making a financial and physical commitment
to support the work of Fisher House.
Fisher House
is the charity that Jeff’s parents asked us all to provide contributions
to as we celebrated his life and his commitment to our country. I
encourage you to go to the Fisher House web site at www.fisherhouse.org.
The Fisher House mission is to support America’s Military in
their time of need by providing “a home away from home”
that enables family members to be close to a loved one during their
treatment. We all believe this is the best way for us to both remember
Jeff’s Christian Fellowship within our church and the KFFL,
and to honor his commitment and love of the Marine Corps he proudly
served by helping the families and members who served with him. We
will have more about the KFFL/Fisher House Mission as we get closer
to the beginning of the season.
