Kirkwood Fantasy Football Ministry

A word from Doug Amon, owner

Always wanted to be an owner of a football team?  Always wanted to hold that Super Bowl Trophy aloft at the end of the season as the owner of the team?  FANTASY you say!

Perfect, as Kirkwood HAS a FANTASY Football League, with FANTASY Football Teams!!!   We have a FANTASY Championship, and our own FANTASY Super Bowl, and the wining owner gets to hold a trophy aloft at the end of the season. (It’s a little smaller than the Vince Lombardi Trophy… but it’s still cool)

All you have to do to become a owner in the KFFL is to participate in our Fantasy Draft held every August at Kirkwood.  We have been in existence for the last 7 years and have enough room in our league for at least 24 Fantasy Teams.  Rookie owners pay only $5.00 to join; returning owner’s fees are $20.00.  This covers the cost of software, devotional materials (read –on) trophies.

The Kirkwood Fantasy Football League is both a fellowship and a mission project.  Our league meets throughout the football season beginning in August with our draft, a Kick-Off Tail Gate at the Church for the first games of the season, and then throughout the year on Monday night at the home of one of our owners.  At each of these gatherings we share a short devotion centered on one of the players that are playing that night, or another element of football.  The objective is to share some Christian fellowship and love of the game of football.

Over the last several years we have expanded the KFFL fellowship into a mission project in support of Fisher House.  The Fisher House mission is to support America’s Military in their time of need by providing “a home away from home” that enables family members to be close to a loved one during their treatment. The KFFL has taken up this mission in response to the loss of one of our fellow owners, the late LCPL Jeffrey Ghen, USMC.  We all believe this is the best way for us to both remember Jeff’s Christian Fellowship within our church and the KFFL, and to honor his commitment and love of the Marine Corps he proudly served by helping the families and members who served with him.

At each of our KFFL gatherings we take up a small collection in support of Fisher House.  To date the KFFL has made donations in Jeff’s name totaling over 2,000.00.  Contact KFFL Co-Commissioners: Max Schindler ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. We encourage you to go to the Fisher House web site at www.fisherhouse.org.
