July 27, 1964 Church site purchased by Presbytery of Potomac
January 1965 Manse purchased
April 4, 1965 First worship services held at Garfield Elementary School, Springfield, Virginia
January 1966 Six Elders nominated, petition sent to Presbytery for organization
March 6, 1966 Seventy-one members received to official church body
April 3, 1966 Cornerstone Service for new church home on Carrleigh Parkway in Springfield
May 15, 1966 The Reverend George N. Cayman called; first new members join
August 14, 1966 First Service held at Kirkwood’s new building, now Fellowship Hall
March 31, 1968 Congregation approved request to Potomac Presbytery of Cayman to dissolve his pastoral relationship to Kirkwood
November 24, 1968 The Reverend G. Carswell called by the congregation
April 2, 1972 Ground Breaking for the new sanctuary
Fall 1972 Reverend Hughs accepted a call from a church in North Carolina and left
May 13, 1973 The Reverend Tom A. Davidson called by the congregation
October 6, 1974 Dedicated the new sanctuary for Kirkwood
1975 Split in the church
December 1986 Reverend Davidson retired
Spring of 1988 The Reverend David Campbell became pastor
April 1994 Thirtieth Anniversary of Kirkwood celebrated
June 19, 1994 Steven K. Arndt called as Kirkwood’s first Associate Pastor, assumed duties July 1994, ordained October 2 1994, departed Kirkwood June 1996 due to his military wife’s transfer to New Orleans
June 1995 After completing training, the first Stephen Ministers commissioned
July 1997 Scott Bean assumed duty as Kirkwood’s second Associate, ordained in August 1997, formally installed September 28, 1997, accepted a call in southern Virginia
August 1997 Session established a Building Renovation Task Force
April 1998 The Congregation elected Kirkwood’s first Board of Deacons
June 1998 Youth Advisory Delegates elected and added to Session membership
October 1, 2000 The Reverend David Campbell resigned
January 2001 The Reverend Robert Harris began duty as Kirkwood’s Interim Pastor
January 2002

The Reverend Larry Lees called to be Kirkwood’s new pastor

September 2003 Began Concerts from Kirkwood series with Miriam Albin Bradley as the founding Artistic Director.  Funding made possible by memorial gifts in honor of Elaine Albin and Kay Benton.
January 2004 Broke ground to begin major renovation
September 2006 Kelly Ker Hackleman assumed responsibility as Artistic Director for Concerts from Kirkwood.
April 2007 Dedicated renovated sanctuary, offices, restrooms, conference room
April 2007 Celebrated 40th Anniversary of Founding of Kirkwood
July 2008, 9, 10 Sent Ed Windhausen on mission trip to Zambia, Africa, in 2008, accompanied by Merissa Hock (’08), and by Breanne Boyle in (’10)
2009 Obtained grant from Presbytery to begin expanded Outreach campaign
