Welcome to Kirkwood, the "church in the woods.” Nestled among towering oaks and colorful dogwoods and camellias, we offer the surrounding Springfield, Virginia area and greater community a place of worship and song, of prayer and learning. We offer the Lord of Life whose compassion and comfort and whose grace and guidance may be found in a gathering of fellow Christians, drawn together in faith, hope and love. We are young and old, married and single, and together we are sisters and brothers of Jesus Christ.

  Yours in Christ,

Upcoming at Kirkwood:

Ordination and Installation: Please join us on Sunday, September 24 as we joyfully celebrate the ordination/installation of our new ruling elders and deacons.

Labyrinth Walk: An interactive prayer practice with time to walk the labyrinth in our fellowship hall using guided prayer and scripture reading will be offered on Sunday, October 22 from 4:30 - 6:30 pm. This event will be held in conjunction with our church neighbors at Prince of Peace Lutheran and will be a drop-in, individual, written, guided practice that can be done at your own pace. If you’re interested in this opportunity, just stop by on October 22!

Northern VA Chorale Concert: On Saturday, November 4 at 8:00 pm, the Northern VA Chorale will present The Commemoration of All Saints Day and the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation.  The concert will be held at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 5800 Backlick Road, Springfield. Kirkwood’s Clydette Lobred is a member of this group.

Hurricane Harvey Relief: The Session invites and encourages you to participate in a special offering during the month of September to support the efforts of Presbyterian Disaster Assistance and their on-going relief and recovery efforts due to the impact of Hurricane Harvey. Please make checks payable to Kirkwood Presbyterian Church and note on the memo line “P.D.A.-Harvey.”

Lynbrook Elementary Tutoring and Supply Drive: Kirkwood will have a group tutoring students at Lynbrook Elementary School here in Springfield. As a tutor, you will work one-on-one with a child to complete homework assignments, read, help with math, and give the children someone to talk with. We are also collecting school supplies for children at Lynbrook. Anything that you would find on an elementary school supply list is accepted, such as: wide-ruled notebook paper and notebooks, pencils, Elmer’s glue, backpacks, etc. If you’d like to be part of this important outreach ministry, please contact Donna Ross.

ECHO Needs: This month, the ECHO Food Pantry especially needs sugar (2# bags), pancake mix and syrup, spaghetti sauce, muffin mix, detergent, facial tissue and toilet tissue. The Housewares Department is very low on coffee makers. The most urgently needed school supplies are backpacks (new), dictionaries and thesauruses, paper pocket folders, spiral notebooks (wide or college ruled), and fine tip markers.  Please see the complete list of donations that are needed right now at www.echo-inc.org under “Donate/School Supplies.”
